Rate limits and the 429 error
Updated 3 October 2026
Every plan has a daily lookup limit and a requests-per-second limit. Both apply to your whole account, across all of its keys.
- Daily limit: resets at 00:00 UTC. Each response includes the
X-RateLimit-Remaining-Dayheader so you can see how many lookups are left. - Per-second limit: short bursts above it are refused with HTTP 429.
Avoiding 429 errors
- Cache results for repeat visitors instead of looking up the same IP again.
- Spread batch jobs out over time rather than sending everything at once.
- If you regularly need more, contact us about a higher plan.
